Watch Me Try Broadcast Journalism

Greater Dayton Association of Black Journalists hosted a crazy awesome event in Dayton, OH for any youth specifically interested in journalism and reporting.

The time I had was great! Met some new friends, ate some good food, and learned a lot. I never knew just how much our news reporters risk and how much they have to cover on their own.

For instance, did you know anchors read off a teleprompter? I never knew that! Or how about the fact that anchors are wearing the smallest mikes when they speak. Can anyone tell they are there? Well, I can! I learned the correct way to put one on. I learned that an anchor has words written for them and sometimes, others perform what is called a stand up which occurs at or near the place they are describing. The anchor then has to decide where to shoot, what to say, and how.
